Some of my favourite people are those who live spontaneously. Early on a Monday morning, back in July, I received a Facebook message from my friend Chef D asking me if I would be available to do a guest shot on his show that day… in a few hours! He was taping several episodes for his new show on Rogers “At Home with Chef D.” Of course, I said an enthusiastic “Yes!” and I am so glad I did.

The episode aired today and I have been so pleased to hear great feedback about it. Chef D’s recipes are spectacular and one of the recipes on today’s episode is featured here on Cooking With Sin “Edible Magic” Scallop Martini. It also happens to be my husband’s favourite recipe of the collection.

“At Home with Chef D” airs every Wednesday on Rogers TV here in the K-W-C area and beyond. Be sure to tune in.

Thank you Chef D for including me in the fun today!

Gourmand International Winner!!

Carla Johnson’s first cookbook “Cooking With Sin” has just won the award for Best Wine Book for Canada, in the prestigious Gourmand International’s “World Cookbook Awards.”

Next is the world judging at the “Gourmand Best in the World” where “Cooking With Sin” will represent Canada in the international competition at the Paris Cookbook Fair in March!

Gourmand World Cookbook Awards

Founded by Edouard Cointreau in 1995, the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards are presented every year to the best cooking and wine books. They are regarded as the Oscars of the culinary book world. The prizes are awarded in 36 categories for cooking and 14 for wine. Every year, Gourmand presents the awards in a gourmet food capital, this time in Paris. The ceremony is a unique opportunity for meeting personalities from the food and drink literary world, as publishers, authors, chefs, vineyard owners and journalists from all over the world attend the event.

Cuisine Canada Nominee!

See what the Benjamin Franklin Awards had to say about it!

“WHAT WORKS It’s about time someone did this and the author grabbed it and ran with it – great job! There are terrific ideas for any celebration for those over 21. Very creative and a mouthwatering blend of booze and food for instance, “Better than recess.” The Russian proverbs as well as the other quotations with credit are great – what a fun book with smashing photos, good color and the alcohol burn-off chart is helpful. Great cover – it’s a grabber. WHAT DOESN’T Nothing – it’s good.”

Republic of Bacon Love!

Posted on: November 7th, 2011 by Carla Johnson 1 Comment

Every once in a while, kindred spirits meet and sparks fly – in this case great, hot, snappy sparks of bacon grease!

You can imagine how many times I am asked whether my recipes are healthy or vegetarian or gluten-free. Who can blame people for asking? Health is important. But here on Cooking With Sin, well… the name pretty much says it all. So when I met some of the guys at Republic of Bacon, the attraction was undeniable! These guys cook, eat and promote one of the most beloved and least respected foods in the world. Heck, in some cultures bacon is a sin! We knew we belonged together!

If you love bacon and can’t get enough – you know you can’t! You will love their site!

Cooking With Sin sends out a big, greasy, crispy “Thank you” to the guys at R of B for featuring some of our recipes on their weekly special “Bacon Love Friday.”

Thanks for all the love guys!
