2014 is the 50th anniversary of the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival here in Waterloo Region, Ontario. It is run by over 2,000 volunteers and over 70,000 visitors are expected this year to this one day event. Oi!

I’m super excited to be part of the action this year at “The World’s Largest One Day Maple Syrup Festival.” Hope you can join me Sat., April 5th on the Cooking Stage at 9:45 am. I hear rumours that I might be in the Pancake Flipping Contest too! Should be hilarious, indeed!

It would have made my Mennonite Grandma’s heart warm to know I’m spending quality time in solid Mennonite country. Here’s to good people and good times!

World Holiday Wine Match #WHWM Finalist!

Posted on: November 21st, 2013 by Carla Johnson No Comments

Just a little surprised here! I found out my nomination of Kacaba Vineyards’ Meritage made it to the finals of Natalie MacLean’s “Joy to the World” Wine Match. #WHWM

I would love it if you took a moment to vote for my nomination. It’s a great wine paired with lamb. Yum!

Some of my favourite people are those who live spontaneously. Early on a Monday morning, back in July, I received a Facebook message from my friend Chef D asking me if I would be available to do a guest shot on his show that day… in a few hours! He was taping several episodes for his new show on Rogers “At Home with Chef D.” Of course, I said an enthusiastic “Yes!” and I am so glad I did.

The episode aired today and I have been so pleased to hear great feedback about it. Chef D’s recipes are spectacular and one of the recipes on today’s episode is featured here on Cooking With Sin “Edible Magic” Scallop Martini. It also happens to be my husband’s favourite recipe of the collection.

“At Home with Chef D” airs every Wednesday on Rogers TV here in the K-W-C area and beyond. Be sure to tune in.

Thank you Chef D for including me in the fun today!

It’s Almost Time for Best Bites, Taste of the Region again!

Posted on: July 10th, 2013 by Carla Johnson No Comments

This will be my third year involved in our Best Bites, Taste of the Region fundraiser. It is very near and dear to my heart and I share some of that on my personal blog site CarlaJohnson.ca.

If you live in the K-W-C area go to the Best Bites site and get your ticket. If you know of a winery, brewery or distillery in Ontario you think would love to be part of this great event – even greater because we don’t charge the vendors! – send them to me please. Thank you!

Here is our video from Best Bites 2012.

Note – There is a bit of confusion. The image for the Riverview is the same as the Ravine wine. That’s an oops I am trying to correct.
